The Roma Club of Leamington was transformed into an elegant, colourful ballroom on Saturday June 4, as the Erie Shores Health Foundation held its 26th Gala with a sold out crowd in attendance.

The hard work of the gala committee paid off as over $331,000 was netted in support of the foundation.
Countless hours of preparation and planning went into the larger-than-life event, complete with beautiful displays of artwork, lighting, floral arrangements and even colourful showgirls on stilts.

Gala26 — an evening of art and friendship — was presented by WFCU Credit Union, as well as ultimate sponsors BMO, Double Diamond Farms, Tilray and Uni-Fab, with numerous other sponsors lending their support to the worthy cause.

Dave Hunter, one half of the Dave and Chuck The Freak Show on 101.1 WRIF radio, served as the live auctioneer for that portion of the evening, and Sonny Borrelli, regional director for the Miss Universe Pageant, served as emcee for the evening.

The evening was highlighted by Toronto abstract artist Julie Amlin, who painted live on stage, creating a piece of art that was then auctioned off. Amlin, who was born in Leamington, wore a white dress that took on the colours of her artwork as she painted. Many of her pieces were displayed throughout the venue.

“Thank you doesn’t begin to express how much gratitude and appreciation we have for all of our sponsors, volunteers and guests who made GALA26 a night to remember,” said ESHF CEO Christine Colautti. “In addition to raising enormous support for the hospital, the evening celebrated long awaited fellowship and connections among our community. You could definitely feel the love!’

In a special celebration of their 30th year as a charity, the Erie Shores Health Foundation presented two cheques totaling over one million dollars to two benefactors who provide health care services in Essex County.

“Words cannot begin to express how proud and grateful I am for immense support of our community. Your love and generosity has been the guiding light of the Foundation and has abled us to provide this support for both Erie Shores HealthCare and The Hospice, Erie Shores Campus,” said ESHF CEO, Christine Colautti.

$ 804,976.78 was distributed to Erie Shores HealthCare, the local 58 inpatient bed hospital in Essex County. The amount reflects the community donations made to financially support the acquisition of medical equipment and the renovations of facilities vital for patient care. Just a few examples of the investments made during the 2021-2022 fiscal year include:
• Chemistry Analzyer
• Laryngoscope Video
• ECG Cart
• Emergency Department Safe Room
• Gastroscopes
• OB Delivery Carts
• Physiological Monitors

“Thank you to the donors, who, during difficult times, understood investing in our local healthcare is essential,” said Kristin Kennedy, President and CEO of Erie Shores HealthCare. “Their contributions allow us to invest in new healthcare technologies, ensuring Erie Shores HealthCare continues to provide quality patient care for years to come.”

• $ 288,118.70 was distributed to The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County Inc. to pay for operating expenses at The Hospice, Erie Shores Campus location from April 2021- March 2022. The Hospice of Windsor Essex County and the Erie Shores Health Foundation have an agreement to ensure the operations and funding of The Hospice, Erie Shores Campus 10-bed Residence and Welcome Centre. The Hospice operates all programs and services and the Foundation fundraises the operational expenses that are not covered by government funding. It was because of community donations that all programs and services are able to provided at no cost to patients and their families. Nearly 1,000 families have been served since the opening of The Hospice, Erie Shores Campus in 2016.

“On behalf of The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County I would like to thank the Erie Shores Health Foundation for being partners in supporting our patients and families,” said Hospice Executive Director, Nancy Brockenshire.

In 2022 Erie Shores Health Foundation is celebrating our 30th anniversary of caring in this community. Over 350 walkers, runners, and cyclists took to the streets of Leamington and the County on Sunday May 15th while participating in the Erie Shores Health Foundation’s “Run and Roll” event (formerly known as LifeWalk). The event hosed several courses including a 5k walk, 5k run, half marathon, and 25k or 70k bike routes.

Sunny skies shone bright throughout the morning, a sign that Kenny Paglione didn’t go unnoticed. “The 2022 ESHF Run and Roll has set the bar for future Run and Rolls. We witnessed new records on both our 5km and half marathon. Committee members took a chance in adding a bike event and it paid off as many were fond of the 25km or 70km roll. This year was in special memory of Armando Bonfiglio, Marc Sherman and the other 42 people we loved and lost as seen etched on our Memorial Wall that Mucci Farms contributed to our day too. We know they were holding back the threatening rain clouds and brought the bright beautiful day of sun. “- Kenny Paglione, Event Chair

Many community businesses sponsored the event, including Platinum Sponsors – Excalibur Plastics and Mucci Farms. Through sponsorships, donations, and registrations, $148,000 was brought in which will go towards annual operations costs of the Hospice, Erie Shores Campus in Leamington.

“We are so pleased to have pulled off another successful event this past weekend, benefitting our local Hospice. This year’s Run and Roll brought our communities together in such an amazing capacity. A massive thanks to our sponsors, donors, and volunteers. A special thanks to my amazing “dream team” of a planning committee; there is nothing this group can’t do! There were so many special moments witnessed that be cherished in our hearts.” – Gloria Cavenago, ESHF

On Friday May 13th the Erie Shores Health Foundation was presented a cheque for $8,234 from a group of local children affectionately dubbed “Kids Curing Cancer”. The group is made up of siblings- Lauren (17), and twins Ty and Kierstyn (12) – who have been organizing fundraising events since 2014 and have donated over $78,000 towards healthcare related programs across Windsor-Essex in memory of their grandpa, Dan Gerard.

In 2021 ESHF was notified that KCC selected the Hospice Erie Shores Campus as their next benefactor, after several family members had used the facility that year. Through 2021-2022 the group planned multiple fundraisers such as online auctions, cookie kits, selling bracelets, raffle giveaways, and a ‘Music for Hospice’ event.

The Hospice Erie Shores Campus in Leamington is a 10 bed facility that receives partial government funding and relies heavily on the support of the community to provide services of compassionate end of life care at no cost to the families.

Kids Curing Cancer also made an announcement at the Friday presentation that they have selected Hospice Erie Shores Campus again for their 2022-2023 fundraising year.

Our friends at the Italian Choir of Leamington are always hitting all the right notes and today they were off the scales when they presented ESHF with a donation for $5,000 to Erie Shores HealthCare! 🤩🎼 They asked us to sing with them but singing is not really our aria of expertise.

In 2022 Erie Shores Health Foundation is celebrating our 30th anniversary of caring in this community. Since 1992, we have believed in the power of generosity to save and change lives. Evolving from the original hospital foundation, today we raise funds for both Erie Shores HealthCare and the Hospice Erie Shores Campus in Essex County. We thank you all for your support in the past, and look forward to the future. 🤍

THANK YOU TO PEACHLAND REBEKAH LODGE #45! They met up with the Foundation to drop off their annual donation. This year they were able to raise $2,000 in support of both Erie Shores HealthCare and the Hospice Erie Shores Campus. Thank you for your continued commitment to quality care in the County!
